Craig and Ashley just got back from the Pennsylvania Bankers Association’s Annual Lending Conference. For the past few years it has been at the beautiful Hotel Hershey, which is right across the street from Hershey Park and chocolate world. We decided that it must be one of the very few hotels in the country that asks you if you’d like a milk or dark chocolate candy bar when you check-in. You’ve never seen so much chocolate, even the soap and shampoo had hints of chocolate in it!
The conference was highly attended this year and the topics of discussion were those that have been on everyone’s mind. Joel Naroff, President of Naroff Economic Advisors, gave an economic update which was consumed with the question: when will the Federal Reserve raise interest rates? Joel said that many people are now predicting December. It will be interesting to see if this prediction rings true and what will happen when it does.
Our own Craig Poms had the chance to speak, his topic titled “What We Have Here is a Failure to Communicate” which incorporated a metaphor between football and banking. The loan officers at the bank are very similar to the quarterbacks on the field, the quarterbacks and loan officers need as much information as possible from those who can see the bigger picture.
Before this conference Ashley had the chance to hear the history of the town and the history of Milton Hershey himself – how he started the chocolate factory and then opened the Hershey Industrial School, a facility for orphaned boys which has since then become the Milton Hershey School which helps hundreds of students throughout the area.
As usual, the conference was wonderful and we were lucky to have the opportunity not just to sponsor this year but to speak as well.
